The EMP Stopper is a multi-purpose transient protection device. It protects the DC (24V) side of your inverter / controller against lightning, solar flares, surges as well as EMP charges. It is easy to install by simply connecting to the terminals of the inverter / charge controller. The device is packed with transient voltage suppression components which have ultra high reliability (AEC Q101 qualified), have a turn-on time of less than 1 picosecond, and can suppress up to 110,000 Amps. How can the EMP Stopper be effective against an EMP when it’s so small?
The danger to solar components from an EMP is mainly the high voltages that are introduced on the wiring from E1 and E2. Those transient voltages are extremely brief in time (from nanoseconds to microseconds) and can therefore be suppressed using small devices. This is distinctly different than the case with homes, which would also experience a powerful E1 current surge from the power grid.
Is it ok to use multiple EMP Stopper devices?
Yes, they can be stacked if desired. Using multiple EMP Stoppers will provide a higher surge capacity and do an even better job of absorbing the unwanted energy.
Does the EMP Stopper protect the battery system even when there is no sunlight?
Yes, the EMP stopper provides transient protection regardless of the activity on the 24V battery side because the battery wiring can always receive damaging energy. The EMP Stopper continues to act as a high-frequency energy absorber whether the 24V side is in use or not. The module connects to the 24V input terminals of your charge controller / inverter, ensuring the Stopper always catches any surges across the wiring. The green indicator light uses extremely low current and ensures the module is connected and working.
Can the light on the EMP Stopper drain my system?
No, the light uses extremely low levels of power, approx 5mA, which is much less than car radios and other accessories. This amount of current draw is negligible.
Will the EMP stopper work on my solar system?
It is compatible with all 24V battery banks.
Will the EMP Stopper interfere with any part of my solar system?
No, the EMP Stopper monitors the wiring for voltage surges and only activates once one is detected. It then shorts this energy in a fraction of a second, protecting the solar system electronics. Once the surge has been neutralized, the module returns to normal, ready for the next surge.
